Subject: OUR Community Maritime Park

Good morning, Councilman Hall,

I am writing you in support of the Community Maritime Park, which will bring more people to live in downtown, spur economic development, increase tourism, and provide that desperately needed "tipping point" for this city. I have lived here 25 years and remember when the city brought in Jim Kennedy (The Kennedy Organization) in 1989 to look at the port property to see what else could be done with it. He came up with a fantastic proposal for a hotel, convention center and an outdoor festival marketplace. Every port worker showed up to that city council meeting and the city council got scared and turned its back on the project and Jim Kennedy. The port was still losing money and Pensacola got nothing. These projects don't come along very often, and the people who are the largest financial supporters may give up on Pensacola if this project doesn't go through. I sincerely believe in the viability of this project, that it will spur development to the west side of downtown and perhaps boost the population of the city (I'm all for annexing many parts of town into the city, but that's another story for another day). There are many, many people like me out there--you may just be hearing from the people who never want change, never want to spend money to improve the city, and never have a good word to say about any project. This park is THE PROJECT. The project that we can be proud of for decades into the future. And YOU, Councilman Hall, will have been one of those with the vision and the backbone to see this project to fruition. Thanks for caring.
Best regards,
Robin Rowan
